Canadian motorbike driver killed in Phuket road accident
A female Canadian motorbike driver has died after her head was crushed under a truck’s wheels after trying to overtake a truck in Kata today.
Karon Police were notified of the incident on Kata Hill at 11am.
Police and emergency responders arrived to find the truck stopped on the road. Nearby they found a motorbike on top of the body of a foreign woman who has been identified by Karon Police as a 29 year old Canadian (The Thaiger is withholding the name).
Blood was found on the road. Her body was taken to Vachira Hospital in Phuket Town.
The truck driver Mongkon Sawenglab, who was waiting for police at the scene, told police that he was heading towards Karon from Chalong Circle. When he was slowing down the hill, the foreign motorbike driver was trying to overtake on the left side of the truck.
He says he tried to move his truck to the right in order to let the motorbike to pass. But when the motorbike had almost overtaken, the motorbike driver suddenly braked. She lost control of her bike and the motorbike fell over under the truck. Her head has crushed under the wheels.
The truck driver stopped his vehicle and called police.
Police are continuing their investigation and checking CCTV footage for further information.
