Yellow boxes to help police
PHUKET TOWN: Ten yellow boxes will be placed in public areas around Phuket Town to allow people to provide written feedback to the police, including tip-offs, suggestions and criticism. The idea for the yellow boxes came from a focus group of 10 people from various walks of life, which was set up by police to evaluate police actions. In a brief ceremony, the committee yesterday presented the 10 boxes to the police. Plastic surgeon Dr Sanguan Kunaporn, a member of the committee, said the yellow boxes would give the public a chance to be involved in monitoring and assisting police. “This will also give people an opportunity to help police if they have information about crimes,” he added. “We think people will feel more comfortable about providing information than if they have to go to the police station.” On Monday the boxes will be placed in various public areas such as hospitals, department stores, bus stations and jetties. The committee will be responsible for the collection of opinions and will then bring all the information to a meeting with the police. The project will run until February next year. The committee is also organizing a radio program called “Tonight on 95”, which will air from 8:30 pm to 9 pm on 95FM every day except Sunday. The program will be hosted by Benchamart Limsakul, a member of the committee. Listeners may call 076-233361-2 to offer complaints, suggestions or tip-offs.
