Urgent call for more A- blood for injured Briton in Phuket
PHUKET: Vachira Phuket Hospital has appealed for more blood donations of A-negative blood in order to continue treatment for British national Marc Harrington, 66 years old.
Mr Harrington was admitted to the hospital for a head injury sustained in a motorbike accident on June 22 (story here).
“The doctors fear that Mr Harrington will go into shock if we are not able to provide enough blood,” a nurse at Vachira Hospital’s Neurosurgical Procedures Department said.
“Despite an operation two weeks ago, he still is not responding any better to stimuli, and he is suffering from internal bleeding. Mr Harrington is still on assisted-breathing apparatus and also has a low platelet count. He is in a dangerous condition,” she said.
“We have only a single unit of A- blood in our blood bank. That is not enough. We urgently need more A- blood to continue treatment for Mr Harrington,” the nurse added.
Anyone wishing to donate blood can contact the Phuket Regional Blood Center (PRBC), which performs life-saving services for Thais and foreigners across Phuket.
The center accepts donations at their headquarters on Rattanakosin 200 Year Road, next to Phuket Provincial Employment Office in Saphan Hin. For more information, contact the PRBC at 076-251178 or by email at phuketrbc@yahoo.com.
