Thai sailor dies in Phuket motorbike accident
RASSADA, PHUKET: A naval conscript on furlough died in a motorbike accident on Koh Sireh last night.
The body of 22-year-old Kij Srichan was found by his father near the clock tower on the Koh Sireh ring road around midnight.
Police think that Mr Kij, who was stationed at the Satthahip Naval Base in Chonburi, was killed instantly of a neck injury after hitting a concrete post.
His motorbike was found lying in the middle of the road about 30 meters from the body.
The victim’s father Chan Srichan said he began to worry about the youth after he failed to return home at midnight as promised.
He had gone out earlier to help a friend sell ice about one kilometer from the accident scene.
When Mr Kij failed to return, his father went out to look for him. He discovered the body about half a kilometer from the home and called police immediately.
The deceased, on a three-day leave, was scheduled to return to base today.
Local residents said the area where the crash occurred is a curved unlit section of the road where many accidents have happened in the past.
