Students attend anti-drugs camp

PHUKET TOWN: More than 70 students regarded as being “at risk” have completed a special seven-day camp at Khao Pra Taew Wildlife Conservation Center. The camp, which ended on Monday, concentrated on the dangers of drugs but also dealt with underage sex and aggressive behavior. Students who had seen others fall prey to ya bah (methamphetamine) or misuse cough syrup went to the authorities at Phuket Wittayalai School and suggested the special camp. The camp was run along military lines, and soldiers told the students of their experiences in anti-drug campaigns along the Thai border. A monk from Wat Kern Ubonrat drew up the activities program and some students had herbal treatments to reduce the toxicity in their bodies. The 73 students in the high-risk group were accompanied by 23 students from the Anti-Drug Association, comprising Year 10 students at Phuket Wittayalai School, and eight students from the Student Council.
