Robbers stab German resident to death

CHANTABURI (AFP): A 52-year-old German man was stabbed to death in a bungled robbery in eastern Thailand yesterday. One of the three men suspected of killing him has been shot dead, police said. Dieter Meyer, from Frankfurt, was found dead early yesterday in the Kitchakud district of Chantaburi Province, Pol Lt Komon Cholcheep said. He had been stabbed five times. After his body was found, police received a tip about the identity of his three attackers, with whom Meyer had earlier been seen drinking. One of the suspects was shot dead by police during a pursuit. The other two suspects, who denied the charges but admitted they were present at the crime scene, were arrested. Police said Meyer had been living in Kitchakud for a year with his Thai girlfriend. An undisclosed sum of cash was found missing from his home, along with a gold necklace.
