Phuket university aims to produce young tourism ambassadors

PHUKET: The Prince of Songkla University (PSU) Phuket Campus held a Young Tourist Ambassador 2016 (Young TAMB) camp to support quality tourism in the Andaman region from May 26 to 31.

“We recruited 58 students from various schools in Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang and Ranong,” said Asst Prof Dr Rattana Wetprasit, director of the community college of PSU-Phuket Campus.

“Teenagers were trained to improve their communication skills and prepared to be ambassadors for Thailand in the future.”

Participants worked in teams to prepare presentations along the theme ‘My Home, My Ideology’. Each presentation focused on customs, cuisine and tourist attractions from the students’ hometowns.

“The winning presentation will be used as a public relations video to promote tourism in the country,” said Dr Rattana.

“If we train them while they are young, they will grow up to be a positive influence on our tourism industry,” she said.
