Phuket laborer slashes girlfriend’s neck in jealous rage
PHUKET: A laborer was apprehended by fellow workers at an on-site construction camp in Rawai yesterday, after he slashed his girlfriend’s neck with a kitchen knife in a fit of jealous rage.
The woman, a Myanmar national named by police only as Ms Yorla, 25, is still recovering at Vachira Phuket Hospital, said Capt Patiwat Yodkwan of the Chalong Police.
“When we arrived at the site, we found her on the floor of their room with a serious wound to her neck,” Capt Patiwat said.
Rescue workers rushed Ms Yorla to hospital, while fellow workers handed Myint Tun Pia Thone, 28, over to police.
“Mr Myint said that he had an argument with Ms Yorla, as he believed she was having an affair with another man,” Capt Patiwat explained.
“He said he became so angry that he grabbed a kitchen knife and slashed her neck.”
With Ms Yorla bleeding on the floor of their worker’s accommodation unit, Mr Myint tried to flee, but was intercepted by neighbors who had heard the argument.
Mr Myint now faces charges for assault with a deadly weapon.
“Mr Myint has confessed to the attack and we found the five-inch knife at the scene, so we will hand this case over to the Public Prosecutor tomorrow,” Capt Patiwat said.
