Phuket Readers’ poll results: Phuket is safe
PHUKET: Phuket is a safe place to visit or live, a majority of Phuket Gazette readers believe.
A recent Gazette readers’ poll asked the question:
“All things considered, do you think Phuket is a safe place to visit and live?”
Overall, just under 63% of the people who took part answered that Phuket is “very safe” or “fairly safe”, compared to about 37% who responded that it was “not very safe” or “very unsafe”.
The most common reply was “fairly safe”, which was chosen by 46.3% overall.
Only 10.7% of the respondents overall thought Phuket was “very unsafe”.
In a breakdown by demographic, those who identified themselves as “tourists” or “visitors” were the most likely to view Phuket as a safe place to live or visit.
Seventy per cent of tourists answered that Phuket was “very safe” or “fairly safe” compared to just 30% who thought is was “not very safe” or “very unsafe”.
A clear majority of local foreign residents (60%) and Thais (58%) also answered that Phuket is “fairly safe” or “very safe”.
Thais were most likely to think Phuket was “very unsafe” (14%), followed by local foreign residents (12%) and tourists (7%).
A total of 835 readers voted in the two-week poll, which ran from February 10 to February 24.
