Man found dead with 58 stab wounds

PHUKET: Police are trying to identify a man found dead yesterday of multiple stab wounds in the playing fields on Soi Si Sena, near Phya Thai Hospital. Pol Maj Vinai Kongkaew of the Phuket Town Police Station told the Gazette that the man had 58 stab wounds — in his back, neck and ears. The victim, Pol Maj Vinai said, was dark-skinned and about 160 to 165 centimeters tall. He was wearing a blue shirt and jeans. His age is estimated at around 30 to 35. On his right arm he had a tattoo of a tiger, and on his left shoulder a tattoo of a heart pierced by a knife. The dead man was found at 7 am and is thought to have died between six and eight hours earlier. There was no identification on the body, but police believe the man may have been a fisherman, possibly from Isaan (northeast Thailand). Because of footprints found around the body, police believe the victim was attacked by at least three people. Alcohol may have been a factor, they say. An empty whisky bottle was found nearby.
