King’s Cup sees better conditions on Day 2

KATA: After a first day’s racing that ended with no results in most classes thanks to lack of wind, yesterday’s King’s Cup racing saw better conditions. An enthusiastic start to the Boathouse-QBE race saw a collision on the start line between Mats Johansson’s Diah Tantri and Rodney Cran’s Slice of Heaven in the Performance Cruising class, which cost the former her bowsprit and ended with Slice of Heaven’s crew kicking their heels outside an adjudication meeting. Diah Tantri’s third placing in the class was small consolation for the lost bowsprit. For the two-man crew of the Loy Kratong, the day’s unusual wind conditions turned moderate hopes of a mid-range position in the Cruising class into jubilation as they trounced many crews they had considered their betters to pull in a very impressive third place. French owner Michel Trippe and locally-based teammate Jolly Menhinick were undoubtedly the happiest of crews at the evening’s award celebrations at Mom Tri’s Boathouse. Despite haphazard wind conditions, which caused the coastal race to be significantly shortened, it was with great satisfaction that judges announced full race results for all classes, with very few of those competing failing to complete. – Simon Hand Results Racing Beau Geste 3:07:28 Stella 3:11:50 Hi Fidelity 3:11:54 Australian Maid 3:17:24 Luna Nuova 3:17:24 Cruising Amanda 4:59:51 Master Blaster 5:06:26 Loy Kratong 5:06:40 Tag 5:15:22 Fi Tuen 5:17:59 Ocean Multihull Lee Marine Fine Pitch 3:42:19 Cedar Swan 4:16:31 Summersalt 6:29:25 Premier Cruising Hocux Pocux 2 6:28:23 X-Treme 6:03:02 Hocux Pocux 6:38:12 Maligaya 6:53:01 Oasis 6:53:23 Platu started at 9.00 Winternitz Global Net Access 1:00:00 105 1:00:05 104 1:00:10 Platu Started at 11.00 Swordsman 1:00:00 Winternitz Global Net Access 1:00:05 104 1:00:10 Performance Cruising Gotcha Lagi! 2:17:44 Octopussy 2:19:24 Diah Tantri 2:23:30 Dream Machine 2:27:40 Big A 2:27:56 Classic Xyphias 5:04:49 Eveline 5:30:49 Sylvia 5:40:59
