Kathu voters elect new OrBorJor member
KATHU: Charnsak Phummak has won the Phuket Provincial Council by-election held in the Kathu area of District 2 on July 22.
K. Charnsak now becomes a member of the council until the end of its four-year term in March, 2008.
The by-election was held to replace former council member Boonma Eabsub, who resigned on June 1.
Of 7,371 eligible voters in the constituency, 2,501 or 34%, turned out for the poll. K. Charnsak polled 1,144 votes beating Rerngchai Akkrapongsakul, who polled 1,013 votes. Both candidates campaigned as independents. There were also 273 no-votes and 71 spoiled ballots.
On August 5 there will be a second Provincial Council by-election, this time for the Yaowarat Rd area in District 1. Somkuan Tansakul, Wongwara Sa-nguansak and Wisut Tangwittayaporn are standing for election to replace Prinya Siamhar, who died June 9.
