Job-training program graduates prisoners

PHUKET: Certificates were awarded to prisoners who completed a sticker-cutting course yesterday, officials confirmed.

The ceremony marked the end of a cooperation course by Phuket Provincial Prison, Southern Media Co Ltd and the Thai Advertising Business Development Association, under the ‘Building Sustainable Future’ project. The course aimed to help prisoners acquire knowledge and employable skills that might be useful after they are discharged.

“We want to do our part and give something back to the community,” said Southern Media CEO Prapaporn Sae-Eaw.

After the project was approved, the private companies donated a 50-000 baht sticker-cutting machine to the prison. “There were 37 prisoners who joined the course,” Ms Prapaporn said.

The 24-hour-long course began on March 4 and was divided into 3 hour classes twice a week.

“Learning these skills through the course will help the prisoners build their futures and careers. We are glad they appreciate our help, and are proud to give them their certificates. They rarely get a chance to obtain such skills,” said Ms Prapaporn.
