First Aid Center opens on Koh Racha

PHUKET: A First Aid Center was officially opened on Koh Racha yesterday in an effort to provide medical facilities to sick or injured tourists.

“The reason we started one on Koh Racha was that the island is quite far from the nearest hospital,” said Santi Pawai, director of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports Phuket Office. “We plan on eventually having this kind of First Aid Center on every beach in Phuket.”

The center is a joint effort between the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources and volunteer rescue workers.

“The First Aid Center is where tourists will receive primary care while waiting for a rescue team or ambulance,” Mr Santi added.
