Chinese bike rider killed in collision with Kamala wall
PHUKET: A Chinese motorcyclist was killed last night when he lost control of his bike on Kamala Hill and collided with the concrete wall of an abandoned house.
His female pillion passenger suffered severe head injuries in the crash.
The motorcycle was snapped in two by the force of the collision, which left a gaping hole in the side wall of the house.
Police named the rider as Dai Tao, 27, and his passenger as Chen Yufan, 22.
“The pair were riding to Patong from Kamala when their bike skidded into the abandoned house, crashing through one of its walls and landing in a ditch. Both sustained head injuries,” Lt Col Somnuek Damkaew from Kamala Police told the Gazette.
“It was really dark and we had to use flashlights to search for them. We found them lying on the ground about 25 meters from a bend in the road,” said Lt Somnuek.
“Ms Yufan was immediately rushed to Patong Hospital, before being transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for emergency treatment. Mr Tao, however, was taken directly to Patong hospital for an autopsy.”
The couple checked in to the Mairim Hotel in Patong on June 17 and were scheduled to leave today.
Police are waiting for Ms Yufan to recover before questioning her about the incident.
