Batten down the hatches
PHUKET: The Southern Meteorological Center (West Coast), at the airport in Thalang, has warned of heavy rain later today due to a tropical depression in the South China Sea, centered about 250 kilometers to the East of Nakhon Phanom province.
The announcement, released at 10:00 this morning, said that the storm was likely to make landfall in the area of Dong Hoi, Vietnam at around midday today. The system is expected to increase the strength of prevailing southwestern monsoon winds in the south of Thailand and cause heavy rains on the west coast.
The center is warning people in low-lying areas to prepare for the possibility of flash flooding and landslides. They also warned mariners to be particularly cautious over the next 1-2 days, due to the likelihood of rough conditions.
