A 63 year old man saved from choking on meatball in Pattaya
A 63 year old man narrowly escaped death after a meatball became lodged in his throat. His grandson quickly called the emergency services, who managed to dislodge the meatball by performing CPR before rushing him to the hospital.
At 4.30pm, yesterday, October 15, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Radio Centre in Pattaya received a distress call from a village in Takhian Tia, Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri province. The call reported a man choking. Upon arrival, rescue workers found 63 year old Charoen struggling to breathe due to the blockage in his throat.
Rescue personnel, along with a good Samaritan, promptly administered first aid. Using CPR techniques, they successfully dislodged the meatball from Charoen’s throat.
After the immediate danger was averted, rescue workers quickly transported him to the hospital for further medical attention, reported KhaoSod.
Charoen’s 15 year old grandson explained that the incident occurred while his grandfather and grandmother were eating meatballs behind their house. The unexpected event led his grandmother to call for help. The grandson then contacted the rescue team, ensuring timely assistance.
In related news, a tragic incident occurred when a woman choked on a traditional Thai dessert and died in front of a neighbour’s house. Medical professionals suspect the cause was a blockage in her airway.
On September 26, Natthawut Chantarasamut, an investigator from Ron Phibun Police Station in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, received a report of a death in front of a house in Moo 6, Ron Phibun subdistrict, Ron Phibun district.
Natthawut promptly informed his superiors and went to the scene with an on-duty doctor from Ron Phibun Hospital and members of the Siam Ruam Jai Pu In Foundation, Ron Phibun branch. Upon arrival, they found the deceased, identified as 51 year old Yupaporn.
Neighbours reported that before the incident, Yupaporn had bought khanom chan, a traditional Thai dessert, and khanom rang phueng, another sweet treat, to eat. As she walked to the front of Nonglak’s house, her neighbour, she choked on the khanom chan and collapsed.
