A 74 year old Austrian man tragically drowned at a condominium pool in Pattaya. The incident took place at an unidentified complex in the Naklua area of Banglamung district, Chon Buri province. The Thai authorities received a report about the drowning around 9.30pm yesterday, May 27, prompting Banglamung police and rescue workers to rush to the scene.

Upon arrival, officials found the body of the victim, identified as Aichmann Johann, lying by the poolside. Condominium security personnel had pulled Johann from the water and attempted CPR, but he had been submerged for too long and passed away at the scene.

The victim’s 53 year old wife, Warinya, and their 19 year old daughter were present and visibly distraught. Warinya revealed that her husband was an avid swimmer and regularly used the pool alone. She and her daughter were cooking in their room and became concerned when Johann did not return at his usual time. Warinya went down to the pool area, only to find that her husband had drowned.

Condo security guard Kosin Moomsila recounted noticing Johann’s towel lying by the pool unattended. He checked the nearby sea but found no one. The 39 year old Kosin only saw Johann when his body began to float from the bottom of the pool. He immediately pulled Johann from the water and performed CPR, but it was too late.
