6 thieves, including foreigner, wanted for robbing Laotian woman in Pattaya

Six thieves, one a foreigner, robbed and brutally slashed a Laotian woman’s face with a knife in Pattaya. The Laotian woman reached out to a famous Thai social media influencer for help as there has been no developments since the attack a month ago.

Guntouch “Gun” Pongpaiboonwet accompanied the Laotian victim, Waewta, to Mueang Pattaya Police Station to follow up on the complaint she lodged after the robbery took place on February 2.

The incident occurred in Soi Thep Prasit 11 at around 2am when the victim was walking home alone. She lost 7,000 baht in cash, her passport, a motorcycle key, and a mobile phone.

Waewta stated that her husband is a Thai citizen and that they work as vendors at Mueang Pattaya Market. She insisted that they have never had any conflicts with anyone there.

On the day of the incident, the six thieves approached her on three motorcycles. All the suspects were wearing balaclavas, but she was still able to recognise one of them as a woman who previously worked with her at her former workplace. Another was a foreign man whom the Laotian victim said was from an Arab country.

The gang dragged her into the dark alley of Thep Prasit 11 and began brutally assaulting her. They repeatedly punched her in the face and pointed a gun at her head to stop her from screaming for help. They also slashed her face with knives, resulting in several stitches.

Waewta reported the brutal assault and robbery to local police officers and pleaded with them to arrest the thieves as quickly as possible but no progress has been made on her case.

In a video shared by Channel 11, the Laotian woman was seen paying her respects to Gun and tearfully expressing her gratitude.

“I never imagined that I would finally meet you. I’m so pleased. I went to the police officers but no one helped me.

“My husband eventually found a way to contact you (Gun). I was very happy when I received a call from a journalist saying that you were going to help me.”

The superintendent of Mueang Pattaya Police Station did not provide any explanation for the delay in the case. He simply promised to review the security camera footage at the scene to track down the gang.

The superintendent also stressed that there was no foreigner involved, as claimed by the victim. He and his team believe the thieves are migrant workers in the area.
