Vapes on a plane: Tourists nabbed for vape on Nok Air flight (video)

Three unruly tourists caused quite a stir aboard a Nok Air flight when they audaciously started vaping mid-flight, leaving fellow passengers astounded. The high-altitude hijinks happened on Sunday, January 5 on flight DD-532, winging its way from Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport to Phuket.

One passenger’s quick-thinking video capture shows the offbeat antics, with one man brazenly puffing away and fiddling with his phone in full view. Another rule-breaker took stealth to a new level by retreating to the plane’s loo for a sneaky puff, crossing a clear line when it comes to aviation safety protocols.

Chaos threatened when the cabin was overwhelmed by a distinctly sweet fragrance, prompting passengers to alert the crew. Neeranoot Meuankid, a witness, spilled the beans.

“They were raising eyebrows even back at the gate, and I saw them puffing away in line. During the flight, the smell turned overpowering, even through my mask, leaving me feeling woozy.”

Neeranoot also caught one of the trio blatantly disregarding the safety demo and giving the seatbelt rule a solid snub during take-off. Her handy camera work provided damning evidence for flight attendants, who swiftly nipped the airborne antics in the bud.

Once wheels touched down in Phuket, the vape-happy visitors were promptly greeted by police and escorted off the plane, facing the music at the airport police station. For now, their identities, nationalities, and potential charges remain under wraps.

Neeranoot was flummoxed by the passengers’ flouting of the no-smoking rules.

“It’s 2025, and you’d think by now, people would realise smoking on planes is a big no-no. Their antics showed a woeful lack of respect for everyone’s safety and comfort.”

To be clear, the rules couldn’t be plainer: smoking and vaping are strictly off-limits on every flight, be it domestic or international. In Thailand, vaping’s been a no-go since 2014, though you’d hardly guess it with the products still lining street stall shelves.

Being caught vaping or even with a vape in your possession could cost you 30,000 Baht (US$910) fine or/and a jail sentence of up to 5 years.
