Thailand’s new lotteries sold via Pao Tang app

GLO approved new six-digit (L6) and three-digit (N3) lotteries

The Government Lottery Office approved a plan for Thailand’s new lotteries – the six-digit (L6) and three-digit (N3) lotteries. The move was proposed by the Finance Ministry.

Entry into the L6 lottery will be 80 baht (US$2.30), the same as lotteries currently available. The L6 lottery will only be available in digital format. Tickets will be sold via the Pao Tang app.

Thailand’s new lotteries in both digital and physical format

Lavaron Sangsnit, chairman of the Lottery Board said…

“The N3 lottery will be sold in both digital and physical formats. Vendors selling physical lottery tickets will be required to provide daily sales data to the GLO digitally.”

The price of the N3 lottery has not yet been set, added Lavaron. He said the board and Finance Ministry will come up with details of both new lotteries and submit the plan for Cabinet approval.

Fake tickets

Separately, the lottery board meeting on Friday voted to revoke the rights of more than 12,000 vendors who have violated regulations.

A Bangkok lottery retailer filed a complaint with the police after she was tricked into buying 400 fake tickets worth 36,000 baht by a big lottery dealer in the Isaan province of Khon Kaen. So far, more than 20,000 sellers have lost their rights, and more than three million tickets have been repossessed.

To detect a fake ticket, look for the GLO’s logo watermark and check if the ink on the ticket dissolves in water; authentic tickets use ink that will not dissolve when exposed to water.

The board has agreed to allot one million of the repossessed tickets to existing sellers via the quota system, while the remaining two million will be sold via the Pao Tang app.

Thailand’s new lotteries still have lousy odds

The lottery in Thailand is hugely popular despite the low odds of winning and the unfavourable payout ratio. The national lottery in all its many forms has a payout of only 60%. The number of people buying government lottery tickets was estimated to be 25 million in 2021, 45% of the population.
