Thai police surrenders after fatally shooting girlfriend in Nakhon Pathom

A Thai police officer turned himself in after fatally shooting his girlfriend in front of her family members at a house in the central province of Nakhon Pathom yesterday, March 26, the victim’s birthday.
The Police Senior Sergeant Major from the Thung Song Hong Police Station, 38 year old Arnon, surrendered himself at Mueang Nakhon Pathom Police Station yesterday after murdering his 30 year old girlfriend, Kanita. He arrived at the police station in his pickup and handed the gun used in the crime to officers.
The incident took place at the victim’s home at about 3am yesterday. CCTV footage from inside the house showed Arnon arguing with Kanita before suddenly shooting her seven times in the living room. Kanita’s 10 year old son and other family members were left terrified by the sudden attack.
Kanita’s grandmother, Jompaeng, told police that Arnon arrived home late and drunk. Kanita immediately confronted him about his lateness, leading to a heated argument. Jompaeng said she tried to intervene, but the pair ignored her.
According to Jompaeng, Kanita pushed Arnon in the chest, at which point he immediately shot her until she collapsed to the ground. Everyone in the house was in shock. Arnon then fled the scene in his pickup.

Kanita’s employee, 31 year old Thanapon, revealed in an interview with Channel 7 that Kanita was a very hardworking person. She was previously a butcher at a fresh market and later ran a rental cold storage business, eventually becoming wealthy.
Kanita had been dating the police officer for about a year. She supported him financially and bought him anything he wanted. However, she had recently discovered that her police officer boyfriend was unfaithful. She distanced herself from him and demanded a breakup.

Thanapon added that it was Kanita’s birthday yesterday. She sent a message to the policeman asking for a separation and thanking him for her birthday present, just before the policeman came home and killed her.
Arnon, however, gave a different account, claiming he heard a rumour that Kanita was having an affair with another man. He said he had tried to make her tell the truth, which led to the argument and shooting.

Arnon was initially charged with intentional murder, which carries the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a prison sentence of 15 to 20 years under Section 288 of the Criminal Code. Further charges are expected to be brought against him after questioning is completed.
