RTP safety play: Thai tourist police launch ‘i lert u’ app for foreign visitors
The Royal Thai Police (RTP) has unveiled a new tool to ensure the safety and well-being of foreign visitors in Thailand. The Tourist Police Office has launched a new mobile application, dubbed Tourist Police i lert u. This innovation in public safety caters to tourists who find themselves in need of immediate assistance.
Leveraging the power of the Global Positioning System (GPS), the application readily pinpoints the exact location of a user in distress, expediting the response of emergency services.
The application, free of charge and compatible with both iOS and Android operating systems, turns a smartphone into a personal safety device. Once the application is installed, tourists can tap the Request button to call for help.
Tourists can also send information and photographs from the scene of an incident directly to the War Room, the nerve centre of the Tourist Police Hotline 1155. This step is crucial as it allows the police to assess the situation and respond accordingly.
The War Room is staffed by officers around the clock, ensuring that help is always at hand. Upon receiving a distress signal, the information is promptly forwarded to nearby police units who can then provide immediate assistance. As part of the response protocol, the police will return the call to the registered phone number, providing initial guidance and advice, reported The Pattaya News.
The Tourist Police i lert u application currently facilitates communication in English and Thai. This user-friendly approach enhances the tourist experience, allowing them to enjoy the richness of Thai culture with peace of mind, said a spokesperson from the RTP.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all tourists visiting our beautiful country. This application is a testament to that commitment.
“Through Tourist Police i lert u, we aim to enhance communication between the police and tourists, ensuring quick and effective response in times of emergency.”
The RTP and the Tourist Police Office continue to work diligently towards this goal, serving as vigilant guardians for the millions of tourists who choose Thailand as their travel destination each year.
