A Thai man has caused quite a stir in the gambling community after he announced that he scooped a 2,000 baht prize from the Thai Government Lottery Office on April 1 by using a set of numbers generated by the AI chatbot, ChatGPT.

The lucky winner, Patthawikorn Boonin shared his success story on Facebook, claiming that he won the 2,000 baht prize on April 1 thanks to the AI chatbot’s numbers, which were 57, 27, 29, and 99. The two-digit winning number announced on that day was 99, which matched one of the numbers generated by ChatGPT. He said…

“It is time to pray to the robot!”

His post quickly gained attention from the Thai gambling community, with over 2,700 reactions and 1,200 comments. While some were excited about the prospect of using ChatGPT to generate winning lottery numbers, others were sceptical.

Some people suggested that the numbers were just a random set that Patthawikorn picked himself and he was just lucky that one of them matched the result. Others urged him to prove how he had asked ChatGPT to provide the numbers.

Patthawikorn gave an interview with CatDumb, where he explained that he asked ChatGPT about the lottery winning numbers several times before.

Patthawikorn revealed that he had asked the AI directly what the winning numbers would be, but ChatGPT responded that it was unpredictable and a matter of luck. The chatbot even advised him to stop being obsessed with the lottery and go exercise. However, Patthawikorn did not give up and tried to ask the AI again in a different way. He inputted hypothetical situations along with the historical statistics of winning numbers from the past ten years, and the chatbot gave him a calculating formula and numbers.

Experts have yet to provide a clear explanation of how ChatGPT can provide the winning numbers, but many Thai netizens are looking forward to seeing the next AI-generated numbers to see if Boonin’s success was a fluke or if ChatGPT can predict lottery results. Regardless of the outcome, Patthawikorn’s story has highlighted the growing influence of AI in everyday life and its potential to change the way we approach various activities, including gambling.
