Thai man strangled and robbed while urinating by roadside

A Thai man survived being strangled and robbed while urinating by the roadside in the northern province of Chiang Rai this week.
The 26 year old victim, Apisit, filed a complaint at Mae Lao Police Station yesterday, April 10, after he managed to survive the shocking attack. The robbery took place at Nong Chang Khot Park along Den Ha–Dong Mada Road in the Mueang district of Chiang Rai at around 9pm on Wednesday, April 9.
Apisit explained that he works at a shopping mall in the city centre of Chiang Rai and was travelling home when the incident occurred. He needed to urinate, so he stopped mid-journey at the location.
The victim revealed that he was speaking to his girlfriend on the phone while urinating. Unexpectedly, he felt something touch his neck. He dropped his phone and then lost consciousness.
Apisit lay unconscious at the scene for over an hour. When he regained consciousness, he found an electrical wire around his neck and marks indicating he had been strangled. He checked his belongings and discovered that 2,000 baht in cash was missing.

In an interview with Channel 7, Apisit stated that he had not noticed any vehicles following him while driving. He therefore suspected that the thief was likely a local or someone who gathered in the park to use drugs or drink alcohol, as the area was very quiet.

Apisit said he was concerned that the attacker might strike again and urged the police to apprehend the suspect as soon as possible. He added that he was grateful to have survived the ordeal, despite the loss of 2,000 baht.

Another disturbing similar incident occurred earlier this year in February but the victim wasn’t as fortunate this time. A fisherman found the body of a woman, strangled and abandoned in a paddy field.
The incident unravelled on February 24, at 10pm in a field within Soi Rai Khing 34, Rai Khing subdistrict, Sam Phran district, Nakhon Pathom province.
