Thai beauty queen wears dress inspired by her background in Miss Universe 2022

Miss Universe Thailand 2022 dazzled fans today at a preliminary round of Miss Universe 2022 in the United States with a dress inspired by her life as the daughter of garbage collectors

Anna Sueangam-iam was crowned Miss Universe Thailand in August last year but to many Thais, the 24 year old is fondly known as the “beauty garbage queen” because of her background as a daughter of two refuse collectors.

The young beauty queen revealed she is proud to be known as the “beauty garbage queen” as it is part of her life. Thai beauty pageant fans were also impressed by the difficulties she had to overcome in order to pursue her dream.

Anna said…

“Don’t cling to where you were born. Believe in yourself. We can change our lives by our own power.”

The Thai beauty pageant fans were up early at 8am to follow the livestreamed event, cheering her on in the preliminary and national costume competitions of the Miss Universe 2022.

Anna’s background inspired MANIRAT brand designer Arif Jehwang to craft a dress from trash. The dress is made from can pull tabs and embellished with Swarovski crystals. He named the dress the “Hidden Precious Diamond.”

Aside from the dress based on her background, Anna also highlighted Thailand’s most iconic festival to the international community by wearing a Songkran Devi costume, inspired by the Songkran Festival, during the national costume competition.

The costume is made from a traditional Thai woven fabric and decorated with crystals and bead embroidery. Anna also held a silver traditional water dipper, which represented how people poured water at each other in Songkran before the water gun was developed.

The competition continues until the final round on Saturday, January 14 at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center, Louisiana, United States. Fans can watch the competition on the Miss Universe Facebook page.
