Police found a blue camping tent pitched on the beach with a foul smell emanating from it. Inside, they found the body of 60 year old Ricky Norbeck of Swedish nationality. Doctors estimated that Norbäck died two days prior.

Inside the tent, police found only a few empty beer bottles and cans. None of Norbeck’s belongings were inside. There was no evidence of fighting or struggle, police said.

Police said that the clothes the deceased was wearing were covered in yellow stains.

Police questioned witnesses nearby who said that the tourist came to Ao Nang Beach alone and camped in the tent since Friday, March 3. The last time he was seen was Sunday, March 5, when he came out of the tent to buy beer from a shop nearby.

After that, no one reported seeing Norbeck, until a tourist discovered his body yesterday and informed locals, who immediately called Ao Nang Police Station.

Doctors said it is likely not a suspicious death as no wounds were found on the deceased’s body.

As for the tourist’s belongings, police checked his Facebook account and found out that five days ago, Norbeck posted that his belongings had been stolen by a wild monkey.

Police are not treating Norbeck’s death as suspicious but have to wait for his autopsy results to come back from Krabi Hospital first to draw any solid conclusions.

The Swedish Embassy in Bangkok has been informed about Norbeck’s death.
