Storm warning: Thai provinces brace for a real reign of terror

The Meteorological Department of Thailand has forecasted severe weather conditions for today, March 24, predicting heavy rain in nine provinces, affecting 20% of the areas. Northern Thailand is expected to face extreme heat, with temperatures reaching up to 40 degrees Celcius (°C).

A low-pressure system due to heat is covering northern Thailand, while a weakening high-pressure system or cool air mass is affecting upper Thailand. This combination is leading to rising temperatures.

The moderate easterly winds over the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the Andaman Sea will cause thunderstorms in some areas of South Thailand. In the lower Gulf, waves are expected to be 1 to 2 metres high, with the upper Gulf and Andaman Sea experiencing waves of about 1 metre.

Dust and haze accumulation in upper Thailand remains significant due to weakened winds. The weather forecast from 6am today to 6am tomorrow, predicts hot weather in northern Thailand, with some areas facing extreme heat. Temperatures will range from 19 to 23°C at the lowest to 35 to 40°C at the highest, with southwesterly winds at speeds of 10 to 15 kilometres per hour (km/h).

In northeastern Thailand, the weather will be hot with haze, with temperatures ranging from 17 to 21°C at the lowest and 36 to 38°C at the highest. Easterly winds will blow at 10 to 20 km/h. Central Thailand will also see hot and hazy conditions, with temperatures from 21 to 24°C to 37 to 39°C, and easterly winds at 10 to 20 km/h.

Eastern Thailand will have similar conditions, with temperatures from 22 to 25°C to 34 to 38°C, and easterly winds at 15 to 30 km/h. The sea will have waves about 1 metre high.

From Surat Thani northwards, easterly winds at 15 to 30 km/h are expected, with waves about 1 metre high. From Nakhon Si Thammarat southwards, winds will blow at 15 to 35 km/h with waves 1 to 2 metres high, exceeding 2 metres in areas with thunderstorms.
