Runaway truck wheel on Pathum Thani road leaves Thai nurse fight for life
CCTV footage reviewed in hunt for truck driver responsible for accident

A male Thai nurse sustained serious injuries after a truck wheel smashed into his SUV on a road in Pathum Thani province near Bangkok yesterday, August 28.
Officers from Khu Bang Luang Police Station investigated the accident, which occurred on the Pathum Thani–Lat Lum Kaeo Road at 9.30am. The Por Teck Tung Rescue Foundation also responded, as the Thai driver, later identified as 45 year old Kittiphat Lertloy, was in critical condition.
According to images shared by INN News, a pair of truck wheels, which were locked together, struck the roof of Kittiphat’s SUV. The impact destroyed the roof and windscreen completely, with the wheel ending up in the back seat.
Kittiphat, a nurse at Thammasat University Hospital in the Khlong Luang district of Pathum Thani, sustained a severe head injury from the wheel and was unconscious when rescuers arrived. CPR was administered but he did not regain consciousness. He was then rushed to Krungthai Northern Hospital.
At the time of reporting, there had been no update on Kittiphat’s condition, nor was it clear where the wheels had come from. Police confirmed that they are reviewing CCTV footage to trace the truck from which the wheels became detached.

A similar incident occurred in June when a female Thai doctor narrowly escaped serious harm on the Friendship Highway in Udon Thani. Security camera footage showed a pair of wheels detaching from a 10-wheel lorry and striking the side of her electric car.
She suffered only minor injuries, and no further collisions followed. The lorry driver was intercepted 15 kilometres from the crash scene and claimed he had been unaware of the wheel loss but expressed willingness to take responsibility.

In December last year, a Thai delivery worker was also seriously injured after being struck by a detached truck wheel. That driver likewise claimed he was unaware of the collision and insisted he had checked his wheels before setting off.
