At the Thailand Smart City Expo 2023, Commerce Minister Phumtham Wechayachai laid bare the nation’s ambitious blueprint for smart cities. Packed with tax incentives and cutting-edge technology, this plan is set to reshape Thailand’s urban landscape.

During his address at the Thailand Smart City Expo, Commerce Minister Phumtham Wechayachai catapulted Thailand into a new era of urban development. Unveiling the Smart City Plan as a cornerstone of the 13th national economic and social development plan, Phumtham, also serving as the deputy prime minister in charge of the economy, positioned smart cities as a national priority.

The minister of commerce outlined that smart cities will harness the power of Big Data to enhance public life and address day-to-day challenges faced by citizens. With 36 municipalities across 25 provinces already certified as smart cities, Thailand is gearing up for a transformative urban revolution.

Digital Economy and Society Minister Prasert Chanthararuangthong shared insights into the strategic collaboration between the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) and the Board of Investment. Their collective goal? To entice investments that will expedite the development of smart cities.

Prasert detailed the measures being taken to allure business investments in the smart city initiative. A jaw-dropping 50% reduction in corporate tax over three years is on the table. Moreover, businesses procuring goods or services through smart-city digital platforms will enjoy a 100% tax deduction.

It’s a financial incentive bonanza set to propel Thailand into the digital age, reported The Nation.

Expo extravaganza

The Thailand Smart City Expo has transformed the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre into a hub of innovation. The ASEAN trade show is not just an exhibition, it’s a glimpse into the future.

Divided into seven immersive fields – telecoms, energy, living, industry and retail, mobility, environment, and healthcare – the expo promises a comprehensive look at the smart city technologies and solutions that will shape our tomorrows.

Billed as ASEAN’s premier trade show on smart city technologies and solutions, the expo stands as a testament to Thailand’s commitment to being at the forefront of urban innovation. It’s a congregation of cutting-edge ideas, tech marvels, and a sneak peek into the cities of the future.

In the heart of Bangkok, the Smart City Expo is not just an event; it’s a declaration. Thailand is embracing a future where cities are not just smart, they’re brilliant.

The tax incentives are the cherry on top, making it not only a visionary leap but a lucrative one too. The digital transformation is underway, and Thailand is leading the charge.
