Long-hunted Thai vegetable vendor arrested for child molestation
A 63 year old vegetable vendor was arrested today in the bustling market of Rayong, after evading justice for six years. The man was apprehended by a police team led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Phadet Ngam Lamom and Police Lieutenant Colonel Burin Kapitta.
The arrest was executed under a warrant issued by the Loei Provincial Court in 2017, on charges of child molestation.
Saengiam’s saga dates back to 2016 when he moved to his new wife’s house in Chiang Khlom, Loei. Here, two young girls, 10 years old A (pseudonym), and 11 year old B (pseudonym), regularly visited to play, as they were relatives of his wife. Trust was built over time as Saengiam regularly treated the girls with sweets. Their parents, along with his wife, were unsuspecting of his ulterior motives, reported KhaoSod.
However, one fateful day when his wife was out, Saengiam took advantage of the situation. The usual visit of the two young girls turned vile as Saengiam, incited by perverse desires, lured them into the house. He then committed the reprehensible act and threatened the girls not to reveal the incident to anyone. Seizing every opportunity henceforth, Saengiam continued his heinous acts for several years.
It was only in 2017 that the girls’ guardians discovered the shocking truth. They promptly reported Saengiam to the police. On learning about the legal proceedings against him, Saengiam fled. He laid low, selling vegetables in a market in Pluak Daeng, Rayong.
However, his past finally came back to haunt him. The police apprehended him from the very market where he sought refuge. Despite his denial of the charges, Saengiam was handed over to Chiang Khlom Police Station to face the consequences of his actions.
