It took several police officers, rescue workers, and friends to calm an unruly, out-of-control drunk who kept biting those trying to help after he cut his hand on a broken glass bottle.

The Chacherngsao Rescue Team responded to a report of a pickup accident on the Bangna-Trat Road in Chacherngsao province near Bangkok. Upon arrival, they found a bronze Isuzu pickup that had crashed into a traffic barrier.

Inside the car, the rescue team spotted two men, who had a lot of blood on their shirts, attempting to restrain their drunken friend, 34 year old Thammanoon Kaewsaiyoon, who sustained a laceration on his hand from broken glass, which seemed to exacerbate his erratic behaviour.

According to the injured party’s friends, they had been drinking together until Thammanoon became heavily intoxicated. In an attempt to open a bottle of soda, he accidentally broke the bottle and cut himself on the broken glass.

The friends then decided to take Thammanoon to hospital in their pickup. However, Thammanoon’s behaviour became uncontrollable, and he began biting his friends and grabbing the steering wheel until the vehicle crashed into a road barrier.

The rescue team quickly removed Thammanoon from the car and tried to provide him with first aid. However, Thammanoon became irate and began biting one of the rescuers, Nawa Thongsakunphan.

Nawa tried several times to provide treatment to Thammanoon but couldn’t because of his unruly behaviour. As a result, the rescue team called the police for assistance. Officers arrived on the scene and placed handcuffs on the out-of-control patient before taking him to Bang Pakong Hospital.

No charges were filed against Thammanoon as neither his friends nor the injured rescuer lodged a complaint against him, understanding that his actions were a result of intoxication.

This incident is not the first of its kind in Thailand. Last year, a Thai drunk woman, 28 year old Kannika Khamthon, was arrested in Pattaya after she bit off an American tourist’s right ear and swallowed it. The victim named Charoen explained that Kannika had attempted to touch his body, but he had pushed her away, and that made her angry. She punched him in the face and then bit his earlobe off.
