PHUKET: Junta chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha today was officially installed as the 29th prime minister of Thailand.
In a ceremony at the Army headquarters in Bangkok, Gen Prayuth received a royal command appointing him to the top administration position. The appointment was announced in the Royal Gazette yesterday.
In his first speech after the appointment, PM Prayuth asked the public to cooperate with the authorities to restore democracy in the country.
He said he would submit his cabinet line-up for royal approval as soon as possible, most likely by October.
“There will be close cooperation between the government and National Council for Peace and Order,” he said.
PM Prayuth also urged people not to worry about [appointment of] certain individuals, saying he would press on with creating strong systems and security issues.
“I will work on economic and social issues, judiciary systems and all other issues in to prepare the country for national reform and push the country to prosperity,” he said.
