Drunk, jealous Thai man stabs innocent neighbour to death
A Thai man yesterday stabbed his neighbour to death in a drunken, jealous rage before calmly waiting for police near the victim’s home in the Isaan province of Surin. The suspect allegedly showed no remorse over the murder.
Officers from the Sawai Police Station investigated the death of the 54 year old Thai man, Tui Kaensuwan, at his home in the Sawai sub-district in the Mueang district of Surin at about 2.20pm yesterday, July 31. The dead body was found in the kitchen at the back of the single-storey house.
Tui was lying face up with a deep cut wound about three inches long to his neck. His largest artery was cut, leading him to lose a lot of blood and die.
The murderer was Tui’s neighbour, a 63 year old man named Jan Boonsom, who waited to surrender to police outside his home, which was located near the crime scene.
Tui’s wife told police that Jan noticed his wife’s motorcycle outside her home and came to look for her. Jan slashed the motorcycle seat before shouting for Tui. Tui responded to the call by poking his head out of his window.
Unexpectedly, Jan stabbed Tui in the neck, prompting Tui to run and hide in the kitchen. Unfortunately, he succumbed to the severe injury and blood loss. Tui’s wife said she immediately reported the matter to the police and looked for Jan’s missing wife.
Feel no guilt
ThaiRath reported that Jan was intoxicated when arrested outside his home. Jan admitted that he and the deceased used to be friends and never engaged in any conflict before. His wife usually visited Tui’s home to sell food. He felt jealous and thought the two were secretly having an affair.
Jan claimed that he looked for his wife and called for Tui to ask about her. According to Jan, Tui refused to help find his wife and attacked him first, so he defended himself. He cut Tui only once and did not expect him to die.
Jan said he did not feel guilty for what he had done because there was no reason for him to feel that way.
Police took Jan to the scene this morning, August 1, for a reenactment. Officers had to tighten their safety measures to prevent a lynching because many locals witnessed the reenactment at the scene. Locals were also angry at the murderer because the deceased was a good person and never drank alcohol or used drugs.
