Bangkok aquarium owner faces backlash after hiring sexy mermaids to swim with his fish

A newly-opened aquarium at Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok has been criticized by netizens after the shop owner hired some sexy models to swim in the tanks with the exotic fish.

The aquarium fish shop, Arowana Mall, hired 20 sexy models for its grand opening event on Wednesday. Each model wore a bikini while two of the sexy girls climbed into the huge fish tanks and swam with the tropical fish.

The 28 year old store manager, Auttachai, informed the media that the store wanted to promote the star of the show, a 30 year old Asian Arowana fish, which cost over one million baht.

Auttachai revealed the shop sells different kinds of exotic fish, especially the rare and expensive ones like the Arowana fish.

The entrepreneur said he could think of no better way to promote his expensive fish than by using some exotic bikini-clad mermaids to show off the fish.

The two models were only in the water for about five minutes so the shop could record a video and post pictures on social media to promote its opening.

Auttachai made known that a number of potential customers contacted the shop via social media and asked about the sexy mermaids but the promotion had already ended. The shop also deleted the post from its Facebook page after receiving several complaints.

Auttachai said he understood that some people might think the event was too sexy, immoral, and violated laws. He added the shop was willing to listen to any recommendations and follow the prosecution processes if the event broke any rules. He insisted he didn’t mean to offend anyone and that the event’s sole intention was to promote the opening and draw shoppers’ attention.

According to Thai criminal law, anyone who shares sexy or naked pictures of themselves to the public or anyone who appears without clothes in public could face a fine of up to 5,000 baht.

Anyone who shares erotic content or nudity on social media could face a penalty of up to 5 years in jail, a fine of up to 100,000 baht, or both.
