72 year old Thai man loses 21,500 baht in sex membership scam
A 72 year old Thai man from Nonthaburi province, near Bangkok, lost 21,500 baht to a sex membership scammer. He was tricked into applying for a membership that supposedly granted access to sexual services allegedly provided by attractive university students.
The 72 year old victim, Phon, sought help from Mueang Nonthaburi Police Station yesterday, September 5. He asked the police to recover his money and promised to donate it all to orphans. He admitted feeling very embarrassed and did not dare to share the situation with his wife and children.
Phon explained that he came across a Facebook page advertising sex services from young women, available for between 1,500 and 2,000 baht. He was interested in the service and contacted the page administrator.
The administrator recommended he apply for membership, costing 200 baht, to view pictures of the women. Phon agreed, and the page sent him several pictures of attractive women, one of whom, a university student, caught his eye.
The administrator then urged him to pay an additional 2,000 baht to upgrade his membership, allowing him to access special promotions before others. Phon did not stop at 2,200 baht, as he later transferred a further 5,000 baht to become a VIP member.
The page tricked Phon into transferring more and more money, amounting to a total of 21,500 baht, promising that the woman would be sent to him. Phon waited for the woman but received no further contact.
The page then urged Phon to pay an additional 40,000 baht for quicker service. Phon immediately applied for a loan from the bank but fortunately realised it was a scam before the loan was approved.
Phon revealed in an interview with Matichon that he feels foolish for falling for the scam.
“Being tricked like this really hurts me. This is a hard lesson learned. It’s enough. I won’t do this again. I’m so embarrassed. My wife and children don’t know about it.”
Many Thai netizens urged Phon to pay only after receiving the service to avoid being tricked in this manner. Some commented that Phon was lucky to realise the scam, as he was willing to pay over 21,500 baht without ever meeting the woman.
In a related report, another Thai man recently sought help from the non-profit organisation Saimai Survive after an attractive masseuse stole nearly 2 million baht from his account.
