2 students killed, 12 injured in Pattani truck collision
Tragedy struck in Pattani’s Sai Buri district when a six-wheel truck collided with a parked pickup truck carrying students, resulting in the deaths of two students and injuries to 12 others.
This unfortunate incident occurred on the Pattani-Narathiwat Road at Ban Laharn village, Village 5, and was reported to police at approximately 8.10am yesterday, November 15.
Upon arrival, police found the six-wheel goods delivery truck stationary on the road, with driver, 25 year old Natthanin Thongsawang, waiting nearby. The parked pickup truck, used to transport students, had visible damage, including a broken right taillight and a dented body. Bloodstains marked both the vehicle and the road surface, painting a grim picture of the accident’s aftermath.
Rescue workers quickly transported the victims to Saiburi Crown Prince Hospital. A 14 year old student, Firahan Sani, lost his life instantly after being struck while standing at the back of the pickup. Another student, 15 year old Sa-enah Mukhor, was critically injured and later pronounced dead at the hospital. Meanwhile, 14 year old Amnul Wa-ngor suffered severe injuries and was transferred to Pattani Hospital for further treatment.
The accident left 11 other students with minor injuries.
Police investigations revealed that the pickup truck, driven by 25 year old Armin Hama, was en route to Maikaenkittiwit School in Mai Kaen district. The driver had stopped the vehicle by the roadside to wait for a final student when the six-wheel truck unexpectedly collided with the pickup’s right side. The impact caused the truck’s side mirror to hit the students who were positioned at the back of the pickup.
“The incident is under investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision,” stated Police Colonel Chalermchai Phetkat, chief of the Sai Buri Police Station.
This tragic event has cast a shadow over the local community, as police work to uncover more details about the circumstances leading to this heart-wrenching accident, reported Bangkok Post.
