2-metre tapeworm found in Thai man who eats raw meat

A Thai man posted a video on his social media TikTok account to warn people to avoid eating raw meat after a two-metre tapeworm was found in his body.

Amarit Chuetamuen posted videos on his TikTok account, @tex2499, to share his deworming experience. In the first video, Amarit told his followers that his anus had become itchy and then felt something slipping out of his bottom.

He thought it was his intestine at first but found that it was moving. Then, a 10-centimetre parasite worm slipped out of his back end. The cause of parasites like this is believed to be consuming raw beef.

Amarit said that raw beef is his favourite dish. He ate raw beef several times a month for two to three years.

The meat-lover posted a follow-up video of a 2 metre long tapeworm that came out of his body which shocked Thai netizens and went viral.

Amarit said…

“Hi everyone! Today, I wanted to warn everyone who loves raw meat and raw beef like me. Look at this! It is almost two metres long. I have been eating raw beef for two to three years, and this is what happened to me. Can’t believe it. It’s a tapeworm. So long! I get goosebumps now. I took an anthelmintic drug last night, and this came out in the morning.”

Amarit added that there was no real warning and that he’d never had a stomachache before. He just has an itchy anus.

One of his favourite dishes is slices of raw beef paired with a spicy dipping sauce that Thais call Soi Ju (ซอยจุ๊). It is a favourite dish of many locals in Thailand, especially in the Isaan province.

Another popular plate is called Koi Nuea (ก้อยเนื้อ) which is another version of Larb (or spicy minced pork) that is made with raw minced beef.

The Ministry of Public Health has warned people to avoid eating raw meat, especially raw pork. The Department of Disease Control (DDC) reported last year in November that 101 Thai citizens in the Isaan provinces were infected with streptococcus suis, known among Thai people as hearing loss fever.
