17 year old Thai girl fatally shot after glance exchange at restaurant

Police are searching for a gunman who fatally shot a 17 year old girl on Sunday, 20 April, while she was riding a motorcycle. The incident allegedly stemmed from an exchange of glances at a barbecue restaurant in the central province of Pathum Thani.

Medical staff at Rangsit Hospital alerted officers from Khu Khot Police Station after the victim, known as Tangmo, was admitted with a gunshot wound to the forehead. Officers immediately rushed to the scene of the incident near the Lam Sam Kaew Municipality Office.

Police spoke with a 52 year old man named Chatree, who resides in a house near the location. Chatree reported that he heard a loud noise at approximately 8pm and rushed outside to investigate. Initially, he believed it to be the sound of a motorcycle crash but quickly discovered otherwise.

He found Tangmo lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to her forehead. Another local used his pickup truck to transport her to the hospital.

According to Tangmo’s friends who were with her at the time, she went to a barbecue restaurant in the Lamlukka district with her boyfriend and three other friends. While at the restaurant, a man believed to be around 20 years old approached their group and stared at them.

The gunman did not flee the scene immediately. Witnesses say he approached Tangmo to check on her condition before leaving. She was later pronounced dead at 7am on the following day, Monday, April 21.
