Phuket’s bulging market

PHUKET: In the latest drive to promote the island’s medical tourism industry, Bangkok Hospital Phuket (BHP) recently held an innovative “boob job” seminar.

Entitled ” Breast Augmentation Using Contour Profile Gel Implant Live Surgery Workshop”, the seminar was attended by some 25 cosmetic surgeons from Asia Pacific countries, especially Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines

Dr. Narongrit Havarungsi, BHP director, said: “Breast augmentation is popular among women world-wide, as breasts symbolize and convey femininity, [and also because] surgery technologies have fewer side effects [than before].”

Dr Narongrit noted, “Each year, more than 1,000 people, mostly foreigners, visit [our] hospital for breast augmentation. Australians and Russians are the biggest client group for this service.”

The one-day seminar included a live demonstration of a new breast augmentation technique that utilizes contour profile gel implants.

The seminar was the second (first seminar in 2012) in an ongoing series of events organized by BHP to exchange medical knowledge and promote the hospital to become a medical tourism hub.

The next planned is the “Phuket International Symposium in Colorectal Disease”, set for December 8-10, 2013, followed by a conference about cancer in February, 2014.
