Python in Government House: Officials search to find slithery mum
A young python caused a stir at the Government House leading to a frantic search for its mother by officials. The incident occurred at 12.30pm, yesterday, July 29, following a Cabinet meeting.
As ministers were leaving, the discovery of a baby python curled up in the press room sparked discussions among journalists and onlookers, one official said.
“This has never happened before.”
The baby python was found resting in the reporters’ work area, a place where such a sighting was entirely unexpected.
Officials speculated that the python might have been searching for food, a common behaviour during the rainy season. However, their immediate concern was the potential presence of the mother python nearby. This led to a swift response from the building maintenance team, who were called in to capture the baby python and release it back into the wild, said an official involved in the operation.
“We need to find the mother python too.”
The search for the mother snake was deemed necessary to prevent any further surprises within the Government House premises. The baby python was safely removed, but the search for the mother continued, adding an element of suspense to the situation.
The incident drew a mix of curiosity and concern from those present. While some were fascinated by the unexpected visitor, others were understandably anxious about the possibility of a larger snake lurking nearby. The presence of a python, even a young one, in such a high-security and official setting, was highly unusual and warranted immediate action.
Meanwhile, the story quickly spread among the media and government staff, becoming the subject of much chatter and speculation. The maintenance team assured everyone that they were taking all necessary precautions to locate and safely remove any other snakes that might be in the area.
The unusual sighting of the baby python at the Government House will likely be remembered for some time, adding an interesting footnote to the day’s Cabinet meeting.
