Thailand weather: Bracing for thunderstorms and a 5 degree drop
Thailand Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a warning for thunderstorms and strong gusts today, followed by a temperature drop of 2 to 5 degrees Celsius. The southern region is forecasted to experience heavy rainfall. The public is advised to avoid open spaces at 5am today, followed by the changes in Thailand weather.
A high-pressure system or cold air mass is currently covering northern Vietnam, northern Laos, and the South China Sea and is expected to spread over northern Thailand tonight. This will cause thunderstorms and strong gusts initially in Northern Thailand, followed by a drop in temperature.
The weather will be cool to cold with strong winds. The Northeast will see temperatures drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, while the north, central region including Bangkok and vicinities, and the east will experience a drop of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.
The public in northern Thailand is urged to beware of dangers from thunderstorms and strong gusts initially, by staying away from open spaces, under large trees, and weak advertising signs. They also need to take care of their health due to the cold weather and be cautious of fires that may occur due to dry conditions and strong winds.
Farmers should also be cautious of potential damage to crops. Serious cold winds will start from tomorrow. The weather forecast for Bangkok is a minimum temperature of 21 to 22 degrees Celsius. The TMD is issuing the fourth warning for cold weather in Northern Thailand with a sudden drop in temperature and heavy rain in the South.
The Northeast monsoon that is covering the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the Andaman Sea is gaining strength. This will cause heavy to very heavy rain in some areas in the south. The Gulf of Thailand will have waves 2 to 3 metres high. In areas where there are thunderstorms, the waves will be over 3 metres.
The Andaman Sea will have waves about 1 metre high. In areas where there are thunderstorms, the waves will be over 2 metres.

People living along the eastern coast of the southern region should beware of waves hitting the coast. Boat operators should navigate with caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the Gulf of Thailand should remain ashore for the time being.
The northern region will be cool in the morning with strong winds. Temperatures will drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius with 20% of the areas experiencing thunderstorms and strong gusts in some areas. The lowest temperature will be 18 to 22 degrees Celsius and the highest will be 27 to 31 degrees Celsius.
The northeast will be cool in the morning with strong winds. Temperatures will drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius with the lowest temperature being 16 to 20 degrees Celsius and the highest being 29 to 30 degrees Celsius.
The central region will be cool in the morning with strong winds. Temperatures will drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius with 10% of the areas experiencing thunderstorms and strong gusts in some areas. The East will be cool in the morning with strong winds.
