Thai AirAsia X faces backlash over cancellations of Shanghai flights

Thai AirAsia X cancels Shanghai flights this April, sparking outcry over refunds. Find out how passengers are affected and what the airline says about the situation.
Earlier this week, a controversy arose on Thai social media as passengers shared screenshots of cancellation notices for both outbound and inbound AirAsia flights to Shanghai, China.
One passenger reported that while the airline refunded the airfare, prepaid baggage fees were not. Another passenger who booked through Traveloka claimed to have lost approximately 3,850 baht per person, despite the cancellation being the airline’s fault.
The cancellations appear to primarily affect flights scheduled from April 17th onwards, although passengers who booked earlier in the same month have expressed increasing concern about whether their travel plans will proceed as scheduled.

Some passengers claim that only their return flights from Shanghai were cancelled, leaving them with valid outbound tickets but no way to get home. Confusion has arisen regarding compensation rights and alternative travel plans.
As of March 31st, an internal source at Thai AirAsia X stated that the airline was investigating the cause of these flight cancellations. The company indicated that affected passengers should receive automated email notifications with initial options such as flight changes or account credits.
The airline has yet to issue an official statement detailing the exact cause of the flight schedule changes or specific solutions for those who lost money on non-refundable add-ons and agent booking fees. Passengers are advised to closely check their emails and official airline channels for further updates.
