Kazakhstani tourist arrested for rampage on southern Thailand beach (video)
Police arrested a Kazakhstani tourist for attacking people and destroying property yesterday at Haad Rin Beach in Koh Pha Ngan, Surat Thani province, southern Thailand.
Yesterday evening, Koh Pha Ngan Tourist Police were informed that a foreign tourist was “going crazy” at Haad Rin Beach, chasing and attacking locals and invading and destroying property at resorts and restaurants along the beach, reports CH3.
As officers approached to try and detain the tourist, he jumped off Haad Rin Pier and sat on a rock in the middle of the sea to try and escape arrest, where he vigorously flailed his arms around and shouted in Russian, as seen in the clip.
Police say the man travelled to the beach with two female friends who, along with police, tried to persuade him to emerge from the sea and take responsibility for his actions. The language barrier made it difficult for the police to try and negotiate with him, reports ThaiRath.
CH3 reports that the Kazakhstani man, whose age and identity were not revealed, told the police that he became frantic after drinking a lot of beer and smoking cannabis. He told the police that he would take responsibility for all damages.
Last week, a young British tourist was arrested for going on a rampage at a 7-Eleven convenience store in Bangkok in the middle of the night. In a bizarre TikTok clip filmed by a European onlooker, the British tourist picks up various items inside the 7-Eleven and launches them at the door in an attempt to smash the glass.
Although the bewildered employees had already exited the store out of fear for their safety, the door was not locked. The tourist proceeded to destroy property, and after failing to smash through the glass, he realised the door was not locked, slid it open himself, and exited the store.
The British tourist was arrested and detained at South Bangkok Criminal Court on suspicion of three charges: trespassing at night, destroying property, and assault. Police didn’t reveal his name or age.
