Regents International School Pattaya embraces International Primary Curriculum

International Primary Curriculum: A Comprehensive and Engaging Learning Experience.

At Regents International School Pattaya, Years 1 to 6 enjoy a comprehensive education that combines the high standards and benchmarks of the English National Curriculum with the globally recognised International Primary Curriculum (IPC). This dynamic approach provides children with the key literacy and numeracy skills they need for success while embracing a cross-curricular, thematic structure for learning.

Subjects Taught within the IPC Framework

The IPC covers subjects such as Science, History, Geography, Art and Design Technology, with objectives that meet or, in many cases, exceed those of other curricula. Health and Wellbeing is treated as a standalone subject, with its objectives taught as part of our ‘Growing Minds’ lessons. These subjects are all taught through carefully selected ‘themes’ or units of work, ensuring key knowledge and skills are covered throughout the children’s time at school. The cross-curricular approach allows children to make connections between subjects and understand how knowledge, skills and understanding intertwine in real life.

Preparing Children for an Interconnected World

The IPC aims to prepare children for life and work in increasingly interconnected communities by fostering a sensibility towards similarities and differences between people and cultures. Through various thematic units, children learn about geographical and historical aspects of different topics while also exploring cultural stereotypes and assumptions. The IPC encourages children to be globally minded and socially conscious, combining academic development with ethical and ecological awareness.

The Four Stages of the IPC Learning Process

1. The Entry Point: An exciting activity or task at the beginning of each unit designed to stimulate interest and curiosity. For example, in Year 1’s Science and Technology unit, children received a mysterious visit from the ‘Magic Toymaker’ who left intriguing materials and tools for them to create a special toy.

2. The Knowledge Harvest: This stage allows children to share what they already know, enabling teachers to tailor the unit to their needs. Children are also given the opportunity to identify what they want to find out, igniting curiosity and interest throughout the unit.

3. Explaining the Theme: Teachers connect current and previous learning, developing children’s knowledge and skills while providing opportunities for reflection and self-improvement. The IPC nurtures self-awareness, a key factor in unlocking high achievement.

4. The Exit Point: This final stage showcases and celebrates what has been learned, giving children the opportunity to consolidate new knowledge and skills by involving families in the learning experience. For example, in Year 1, children created a bespoke exercise plan for their parents, demonstrating their scientific knowledge about maintaining healthy bodies.

Nurturing Future Leaders

The IPC encourages teachers at Regents to intentionally thread personal learning, such as the Round Square attributes, within their teaching. This approach continually develops children’s attitudes and capabilities as thinkers and learners as they progress through the school. Research has identified that such competencies are critical in the development of future leaders. The IPC at Regents remains focused on shaping a generation that will change our world for the better, providing a curriculum fit for our ever-evolving global community.
