The Thaiger Great Convenience Store Gourmet Challenge – Season 1

And the winner is…

The Thaiger Foodie Month of March included the very popular and quirky “Great Convenience Store Gourmet Challenge” which saw chefs from around Phuket’s best restaurants take on the challenge of producing a two course meal from items purchased only at a convenience store. 5 minutes in a convenience store (most of them were 7/11s), 1000 baht cash and 45 minutes in their kitchen to cook up a storm for The Thaiger’s foodie guru and judge, Donna Toon. Donna has been a F&B director for 15 years at hotels, restaurants and beach clubs around the world – Australia, New Zealand, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Thailand – and knows the foodie business.

The competition was fiercly fought between the five chefs, Belinda from Pavilions Phuket, Kai from Novotel Phuket Surin Beach Resort, Cyril from Novotel Phuket Karon Beach Resort, Peter from Les Diables and Ryan from Swissotel Resort Phuket Patong Beach.

Our Season 1 winner was Ryan from Swissotel Resort Phuket Patong Beach with an impressive 45/50 points in the challenge. His tempura beer battered scotch egg, and deconstructed liquid nitrogen coconut dessert was impressive, creative and very tasty.
