Umno Youth chief demands DAP apology for past remarks, coalition sincerity

Umno Youth leader Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has insisted on an apology from the Democratic Action Party (DAP) for its alleged past wrongdoings and harsh comments against his party. During his closing address at the Umno Youth general assembly 2023, Dr Akmal emphasised the importance of voicing grassroots concerns, regardless of any potential backlash.

“Let people say that we are rude, but what matters is that we are voicing out what the grassroots want. This is the bitter truth, but I want to share the bitter truth as medicine to heal,” he told over 1,000 delegates at the World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

In his speech, Dr Akmal demanded that DAP apologise to Umno for its supposed past mistakes and demonstrate its commitment to the coalition government led by PKR’s Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The coalition includes Pakatan Harapan component parties, Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, and Gabungan Bersatu Sabah.

However, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi quickly dismissed the need for DAP to apologise, stating that the matter does not need to be raised again by his party.
