Umno to enable online membership applications with constitutional amendment

The United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) is set to approve an amendment to its constitution, enabling online membership applications. The special UMNO General Assembly, scheduled for tomorrow, will discuss the motion to change the clause to a rule, granting the Supreme Council the power to amend membership application rules. UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi explained that although an online membership platform already exists, the application and approval process will be improved.

“What will be amended are the clauses regarding the membership application. There is a clause for applications to be made online. What will be presented in the special general assembly is to amend the clause to become a rule.”

“So when it becomes a rule, it means that the Supreme Council has the power to amend the rules in terms of membership applications. Even though we have already had an online membership platform, but we will improve the application and approval method,” he said.

The Deputy Prime Minister spoke to reporters after visiting Laman Media (media centre) at the 2023 Umno General Assembly here today.
