Malaysia identifies Haj pilgrims using Rahmah Cash Aid list

The Malaysian government is using the Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) recipient list to identify prospective Haj pilgrims from the B40 and M40 income groups, while those in the T20 income group are identified based on an individual income of above RM15,000 per month. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, explained that the Pilgrims Fund Board (TH) has been working closely with the government to verify the income information of potential Haj pilgrims using existing databases.

“For the 1444H/2023M Haj season, 45.7% of those selected are from the B40 group, 52.3% from the M40 group and 2% from the T20 group,” Mohd Na’im Mokhtar said during the Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat.

He provided this information in response to a question from Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman, who wanted to know the criteria used to classify the B40, M40, and T20 groups in selecting individuals to perform Haj for the 1444 Hijrah season.

Regarding the higher Haj quota, Mohd Na’im stated that Malaysia has submitted an application to the Saudi Arabian government and is now awaiting the outcome of the appeal.
