Anwar Ibrahim attends first Umno assembly since 1990s expulsion

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim recently attended his first Umno general assembly since being expelled from the party in the 1990s. He stated that the main purpose of his visit was to strengthen the camaraderie within the unity government and prioritise the interests of the country and its people.

“The important thing is to complete the task for the country, personal experience is important but it cannot overcome the interests of the people and the interests of the country. So, I am coming back because I use this platform of unity to strengthen the government and provide benefits to the people,” Anwar said.

During the event, Anwar was seen singing the Umno anthem and waving the party flag alongside its top leadership. His presence as the guest of honour at the Umno headquarters was highly anticipated due to his turbulent history with the party. However, Umno supported Anwar’s formation of the federal government last year despite their previous conflicts.

Also present at the annual general meeting were Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, and DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke. The gathering aimed to foster unity and collaboration among the different parties in the interest of the nation’s progress.
